CLAT - The Common Law Admission (CLAT) is a national-level entrance exam for admissions to
undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) Law Programmes offered by 22 National Law Universities in India.
CLAT is organized by the Consortium of National Law Universities, comprising representative
universities. Several affiliates universitis and organisations also use the CLAT exam for
admissions and recriutment respectively.
Till 2018, CLAT was conducted on a rotation basis by NLUs. However, from 2019 onwards the
CLAT will be conducted by a permanent body, ''Consortium of NLUs'' formed by NLUs. The
body has its headquarters at NLSIU Bangalore.
All the admissions to the 5-year integrated LL.B and LL.M. Programmes that commences in the
Academic Year 2023-2024, Shall be through the CLAT 2023.

CLAT Eligibility
CLAT: Undergraduate (UG) 2023 :
1. There is no upper age limit for candidates appearing for UG Programme through the CLAT 2023.
2. Candidates must secure the following minimum percentage of marks in their qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2 or an equivalent examination).
a. Forty Five Percent (45%) Marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to General / OBC / PwD / NRI / PIO / OCI / Categories.
b. Forty Percent (40%) Marks or equivalent in case of candidates belonging to SC / ST Candidates.
3. Candidates who may be appearing for their qualifying examination in March / April 2023 are also eligible to appear for the CLAT 2023 Examination.
CLAT: Postgraduate (PG) 2023
- An LL.B Degree or an equivalent examination with a minimum of Fifty percent (50%)
marks or its equivalent grade in the case of candidates belonging to the General / OBC / PwD / NRI / PIO /OCI categories. - Forty-Five Percentage (45%) Marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to SC / ST Categories.
- Candidates appearing for their qualifying examination in March / April 2023 are eligible to apply.
- There is no upper age limit for applying for the CLAT 2023
Common Law Admission Test - CLAT 2023: Candidates who are seeking admission to law
courses in the NLUs and other private universities should register online through the official website of CLAT.
CLAT 2023 Application Fee
- Application Fees can be paid only online.
- Application Fee for General / OBC / PWD / NRI / PIO / OCI Candidates : Rs. 4,000/-.
- Application Fee for SC / ST / BPL Category Candidates: Rs. 3,500/-.
- The cost of previous years' question papers is Rs. 500/- (not included in the CLAT 2023
Application fee of Rs. 4,000/- or Rs. 3,500/- as the case may be.)
- The candidates themselves will have to bear the bank transaction charges for remitting
the fee online. The actual bank transaction charges will be displayed in the payment
gateway page after you choose the mode of payment.
- Application Fees are non-refundable.
CLAT Exam Pattern
The CLAT will be conducted in offline mode. It is an objective paper and the total duration is
two hours. Each correct answer will be awarded one mark and a 0.25 mark will be deducted for
incorrect answer. The examination will be conducted in English language only.

Common Law Admission Test Syllabus
The CLAT 2023 would focus on evaluating the comprehension and reasoning skills and abilities of candidates. Overall, it is designed to be a test of aptitude and skills that are necessary for a legal education rather than prior knowledge, though prior knowledge occassionally may be useful to respond to questions in the Current Affairs Section.
The CLAT 2023 shall be a 2-Hour test, with 150 Multiple-Choice Questions carrying 1 mark each. There shall be negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer. These questions would be divided across the following 5 subjects:
English Language.
Current Affair, Including General Knowledge.
Legal Reasoning.
Logical Reasoning.
Quantitative Techniques.
The PG-CLAT 2023 will feature an emphasis on the comprehension abilities of the students. It shall be of 120 minutes
duration, with one section:
• The first section would include 120 objective-type questions carrying 1 mark each. There shall be a negative
marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer.
The paper will be based on the mandatory subjects of the undergraduate program and include Constitutional Law,
Jurisprudence, Administrative Law, Law of Contract, Torts, Family Law, Criminal Law, Property Law, Company Law,
Public International Law, Tax Law, Environmental Law, and Labour & Industrial Law

CLAT Result 2022
The organising institute will announce the CLAT result before three-week from the date of
examination. The CLAT result will be available in online mode only. The test-takers will get only
the information only on the qualifying status in CLAT result. Aspirants should enter the
registration number or roll number along with the date of birth to access the CLAT result.
